One of the most beautiful memories in my life is seeing my daughter's heartbeat for the first time and witnessing my husband's reaction.
We had found out I was pregnant when I was just 4 weeks along. The Dr doesn't have you come in to confirm the pregnancy until closer to 8-10 weeks because they can't pick up the baby on the ultrasound until that point. It seemed like an eternity but because it was so far out we could easily schedule the appointment so that Jason could come as well.
I hadn't had any pregnancy symptoms, so despite the fact that we had 3 positive pregnancy tests we were still a bit doubtful that there was actually a baby in my belly (silly us). Jason was a bit nervous to be in the room, not that I blame him. Experiencing the gynecologist exam room and stirrups for the first time can be a bit jarring. Dr. Foley quickly pulled up a picture on the ultrasound screen and said, "There's your baby."
That sentence alone seemed to really solidify things - like really? - I'm actually pregnant? The picture was a bit hazy but she showed us the little bean that was the beginnings of Emily and more amazingly the fluttering little heart that had already begun to beat. When Jason saw that a change immediately came over his face, in that moment it all became real for him and he had become a father. I really don't know how to adequately describe it in words, but it was an amazing moment. From that point on my favorite part of every appointment was having the opportunity to hear her heartbeat.
